Eco-friendly and cheap home decor ideas

Some Ideas of Eco-friendly and cheap home decor came about when I visited my neighbors home. My neighbor is 79 years old and shovels her drive way and even mows her own lawn. She is also handy with power tools.
Would you ever believe that this was once a bathroom sink. Originally Found at Penny's Outlet center, it was a damaged floor piece. There is a marble sink inlay, broken of course. My Neighbor got them to sell her the sink for 30$ cause to fix the marble or to replace it would have been very costly. I'm sure the company was happy to make any money on a broken floor piece. This is now a cabinet in her living room. She had taken a solid piece of wood cut it to fit beveled the edges to keep the details, and had a stain colored to match the original. Original cost was over 400.00. The Eco-friendly part is that this is a new piece of furniture that will not end up in a landfill and will most likely become a family heirloom.

Another few works of art she has made has given me many ideas. Not that Iv had time to make my own someday I will.
This was infants changing table. Found in a garage sale, its solid wood. She stained and buffed out the ware and tare. Its now its her buffet in her dining room.

Here is a rocking stool part of a glider set. she bought it also at a garage sale and reupholstered it. Now it matches the rooms in her home.

Most ideas are trash to treasure, and just pure bargain hunting. If you have the time to repair and re-due something you can create anything. You can also expand on this by using renewable products, such as bamboo fabric when reupholstering items.

Kid Friendly Valentines Day Crafts

I wanted to do a craft with my kids to help with the winter blues. And Valentines Day Is just around the corner. I have a bunch of craft supplies from my scrap booking days (back when I had time). I was just trying to come up with a kid friendly idea where there was not much parent involvement other then guidance. What I came up with was a centerpiece for the table. You and you honey can have a wonderful dinner with a lovely center piece made by your kids....

Supplies:

Craft Glue

Paper of different colors (I used scrap booking paper)
Wooden meat sticks (look like long tooth picks)

Misc stickers (heart shapes but any kind of Valentines day type would look cute)

Pre-cut hearts in random colors (scrap booking supplies I had on hand)

Styrofoam balls and a basket or cute base that the ball will sit in.

Step 1- have kids(help) trace there hands on the color paper that they choose. I made 4 cut outs for each child.

Step 2- have a parent cut out hands

Step 3- let kids glue hearts and place sticker on hands let them be creative.

Step 4- parents glue wooden sticks to wrists on hands. Let dry completely. (I occupied kids during this time by serving dinner)

Step 5- put a sticker over the end of the wood stick to cover it and make it look nice.

Step 6- kids can stick the wood sticks into the Styrofoam ball and help them place them so its balanced. and when your finished you will have a little hand garden full of love.

You can substitute for any supplies you have on hand. A cute ceramic pot would make a really nice base if you have one on hand.

I came up with this Idea after standing in front of all my supplies trying to come up with an Idea to occupy there time and allow me to finish cooking dinner. My kids due to cold weather and just being sick lately can not go outside, So I needed to be creative. My kids were able to put the the sticker on them selves and my sister in law helped with the glue. Bed time came fast after and the hands were not dried so we continued it the next day. It turned out very cute. The kids really loved making it and cant wait to do another project again.

What Am I Waiting For

I was listening to my favorite radio station last night as I do every night. And she had some really good things to say and everything she says is uplifting and shes the guru of love. She can see smiles on faces of people bit by the love bug through phone lines. But one things she said last night is to stop waiting. We all wait till work is over, wait till the kids go to bed, we are a civilization of people waiting.
Delilah Blog

That's where it got me to thinking. What am I'm waiting for when I can be doing. When I go to classes I wait for them to start but I don't want them to end I enjoy them. So I'm thinking If I cant wait for the kids to go to bed is it because I don't enjoy them. Of course not I love them. I had to think about it and I did that for a while last night. What I decided to do is stop waiting for things to end so I can enjoy the next thing, but to enjoy them now and continue to enjoy what I'm waiting for. this way I'm enjoying everything all the time. Make sense right. Well Kinda. There will always be things I just want to be over like bad things. But even bad things happen for a reason. Like speeding tickets they are bad because who wants to pay for them. But you get them because you need to slow things down. Not that I got a speeding ticket. But once again its life telling you to slow down take your time enjoy what is happening now . So that's what I'm going to try to do, enjoy the now and not wait till tomorrow. But that does not mean I'm going to do my chores today that can wait till tomorrow.

CPR Is a Must! and First Aid

I had to update my CPR card for work. Their is a new and more updated way of doing CPR. I would encourage everyone to go to the American Heart Association and take a class. Their is a new way a second way of doing CPR, its called chest compressions only CPR. Their is oxygen in a person lungs when they collapse and are in need of CPR, and you have about 5 mins where you can do compression only and the body will use the O2 that is still in the lungs. I am not a certified teacher so I want everyone to take their own class and learn this new way, its an alternative for someone who does not want to do the mouth to mouth part. But this option is not the best option for all cases. That's why you need to take a class to learn.

You can save a life.

I believe as most health care providers do that the common every day non health care provider should learn CPR,and Basic First Aid. Even knowing the basics of CPR can save a persons life. How many people can say that they know what to do in an emergency situation. Can you keep your cool. Can you give orders. When the time comes can you remember how to call 9-1-1. I have spoken to a few people that for got how to dial 9-1-1. When you stressed and in a hurry details matter. Proper training can prepare you for an emergency. Most people know the signs of a Heart Attack, but do you know what to do next. Can you tell the signs of a Stroke(CVA). What do you do when you are badly burn, bitten by a snake, spider, or wild animal? Can you help stop bleeding? I bet you don't even know the number to poison control in your area.

Taking a CPR class and or a First Aide Class is a great way to be prepared. you can contact the American Heart Association for details and a listing of classes. Other ways to be prepared for an emergency is to have well stocked First Aid Kits. Know if your place of work has an AED machine, and a list of people qualified use it. Keep a kit in your car. Include in your kits gloves, and face shields. Program your cell phone with poison controls number, so you don't have to search for it. You can never be too prepared , don't just be a bystander.

Happy New Years..........Guess what time it is?

OK, so this is the time of year where you are expected to make some sort of new year resolution. Most of us have something in mind like losing a bit of weight or a lot of weight. Getting tan in time for summer, oh and that really sweet bikini you bought last summer and never fit but were determined to make it fit by next summer. Well from my experience dieting after the sweetest and fattiest time of the year is the worst time to start we have had months of holiday parties, treats and good food and great drinks. I don't know about you but it never works for me. So this year my list of resolution is a bit different, Ive tried to list a few things that I know I can do. Most will be just making good habits that will last.

1) I'm gonna eat what I want-----and let my conscious be my guide ;)

2)Bring all the reusable shopping bags Ive collected over the last year to the store so I can actually stop using the plastic ones

3)Grow more of our veggies this spring and summer

4)Finish my degree in Medical Assisting and Graduate with honers and 4.0

5)Save money----yea we all say it but this time I'm determined to do it.

6)Move to a better community

7)Start my nest nursing degree!

8)Continue to keep my positive and up beat attitude

9)Grow my relationship with my Husband

10)And in no certain order but it being on the top of my list(even though is listed last)BLOG more!!

Im at my most fabulous when:

My children are happy and healthy. Ive had a long hot shower where Ive had enough time to shave and wash my hair. When the toys are picked up , Dinner goes off with out a hitch. And I can enjoy the dessert in peace. But if you ask any mom the same question and they are bound to have something on my list as to me on there list.

Id have to say I'm at my most very fabulous when I can be myself and not have to pretend or fake my feelings. When I can be totally honest and don't have to abide by any society's rules. When I can be ME! Its that simple. For me anyways.

Virtual Family's

Many of us moms and some dads have turned to the Internet for advise and support on daily life , health ,and kids. With out the friends Ive meet on line I might not be where I am now. Anytime I had a question there was a entire community that had the opinions and experience to help me. And I'm sure Ive also helped someone.

Some Moms and Dads don't have anyone else they can ask, those personal type of questions and if they did have a support system at home some people just don't want to disclose certain things. But an online community gives someone the option to ask a question without judgment. For instance when a mom delivers her first baby and has a question about breastfeeding or the length of bleeding that can occur. The on line community cant point them in the right direction and even to other website with more info for them, or just give them there opinion and there own real personal experience. On line community's offer so much.

Ive become very involved in the on line community's that Ive joined. Even more recently Ive gotten my share of good advise and help. I'm not sure where id be with out them. I hope to someday meet the family's that Ive known over the four years sense discovering them. I call them all my friends and they are all my sisters.

I saw the best film ever

The only bad part was it was a dream. I had the best dream ever. It had nothing to do with money or love or my kids or family. Strangely enough it was a horror sci-fi film and I was its author. The women did not where high heals a typically trip in the woods. It had a good plot and story line. Noting was predictable, and it was unlike any film Ive ever seen it was the best. It had vampires and werewolves and zombies, giants, elves, and magician. The plot was thickening and things were getting good. Then when I was finally gonna find out what happened to Lisa and if Mr. Mc Greggory and Count Tressa were gonna make it out of the space ship alive, and Von Lichtenstein had Ivory locked in a volt, and and it was getting good I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat...then Guess what happened next...............................................................

Evangline woke me up and asked me for more milk. Now ill never now what happens next.
